When viewing Kannada text in Firefox 142.0.1 (64-bit) on macOS [your version], conjunct letters (ottaksharas/ligatures) do not display correctly. Instead of showing combined forms like ಶ್ರೀ (shri), ತ್ವ (tva), ತ್ರ (tra), the characters appear split into individual glyphs.

This issue is browser-specific:

In Safari and Chrome, the same text renders properly with correct Kannada shaping.

In Firefox, the ligatures fail to render, making Kannada text appear broken and unreadable.

Apple Support confirmed that the system rendering is fine and advised reporting this to Firefox.

Example text (should be tested): ಚೊಕ್ಕಾಡಿ ಶ್ರೀರಾಮ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ವಾರ್ಷಿಕೋತ್ಸವ

Hi all.

This is a long message. I've tried to give as much info to reproduce a frustrating and re-occurring problem.

Firefox regularly freezes when my PCs resume from sleep. Multiple PCs, Windows 10 and Windows 11. Unfortunately it is hard to reproduce because it depends on a number of conditions and pages to be opened. I've had this problem with Firefox for many years now, easily since 2015. Because I normally only notice it when resuming from sleep and the combined problems, I've struggled to identify the exact trigger combination.

Has anyone else seen this? I will try gather debug logs next time it starts again. In the meantime, has anyone got a suggestion?

Troubleshooting attempts

  • Over the past years I have tried clearing cache, cookies, resetting FF, restarting the PC, starting FF in troubleshooting mode, disable and even uninstall all plug-ins, and much more.

Nothing solves it, but it is usually intermittent.

Problem trigger conditions • The problems seem related to when the network device resumes the connection. When the problem occurs after resuming from sleep, it can be reproduced when network connection is restarted. • It doesn't happen if I immediately sleep the PC and wake it again. That might be because the network remains 'awake' for a while. • It is highly dependent on the web pages open in Firefox at the time AND which Firefox window they're in AND the session in the pages that are open or something about the activity (scripts / session) on the page that is triggered when the network is re-established. • A combination will cause one or more Firefox app windows to freeze • Sometimes I can reproduce the problem 50+ times over two days in a row by restarting a wired network connection. Then the problem disappears. For example: ○ I found one Firefox window was freezing during a test, but a second empty one did not. I then moved all but the active tab (where I was logging this ticket) to the other Firefox window. The first page in the primary FF window kept freezing, but the other tabs moved to a new app window did not. I then move a "working page" back to the primary FF Window and the "problem page" to the other Firefox window, and the problem disappeared and wouldn't occur again. ○ This situation is quite common. With a combination of pages open, on the same PC, Firefox freeze everytime after resuming or the network connection is restarted, even with all pages "unloaded" from Firefox, so they shouldn't be doing anything. Later, I might close a set of pages when I'm done, and the problem goes away.

Environment:

  • Multiple Windows PCs over the past 6 or more years
  • Clean and upgraded operating systems
  • Windows 10 and 11 Pro 64bit, all with latest patches installed.
  • Firefox - always latest version. If Firefox is uninstalled and re-installed, the sessions and open pages are lost, to the problem is gone for a while, but then re-appears.
  • I use my Firefox account to sync everything: settings, bookmarks, tabs etc. between multiple PCs.

I also have Firefox on my Android phone, Samsung S24, also sync'd to the same Firefox account. I always sleep my PC with Firefox and other apps running, with many tabs open in FF.

Symptoms:

  • When it has frozen, Firefox app is the only one frozen. The other Windows apps work normally.
  • In Firefox, you'll see these symptoms:
  - Nothing inside the FF window works, but if not full screen, you can move it around and all the content shows normally. You can also minimize and maximize the window from the Windows toolbar. It doesn't matter how many Firefox windows or tabs are open, all are hanging the same way.
  - You cannot close Firefox from the toolbar.
  - As you move the mouse cursor onto the FF app, the first cursor image set (resize icon or whatever) when it goes onto the FF app, is retained until you move the cursor off then app. Once off, the cursor is back to the arrow pointer.
  - All Firefox windows open when it becomes frozen, remain frozen for minutes or hours, until you restart Firefox. (See how to restart below, without losing anything).
  - You can resize the FF window by dragging the edges or corners. Existing content is cropped when you shrink the window as if it's a screenshot image being cropped. The content is not redrawn when you enlarge the window.

How to get restart FF without killing the app:

  • When the FF window(s) are frozen, you *can* open a new Firefox window by right-clicking on Firefox in the Windows toolbar, and choosing "Firefox" or "Open new window". That new window is full responsive and everything in that window and successive windows work 100%.
  • You can then close Firefox using ctrl-shift-Q (Firefox menu > Exit), which closes all the FF app windows.
  • Then, I can start Firefox again from the menu / pinned app and all windows open again as they were, with nothing lost. All the tabs open as well in each window, just as before the freeze. I can continue without anything lost except maybe session info. Even this partly typed message and session wasn't lost when I did a test.

I hope someone can help resolve this.

Thanks in advance. Brian

Since the FireFox Desktop update over a month ago (and subsequent patches, currently on Version 142.0.1 (64-bit)), every time I type an email using AOL webmail in the FireFox browser using my Windows 10 Dell desktop, I can only type a few characters before the cursor jumps off the line I am typing and I have to use the mouse to reclick where it stopped typing to again try to retype. This can happen multiple times sometimes as a short as typing only one character before the cursor jumps and I cannot further type. It has now become soooo annoying that I am thinking of changing browers after having using FireFox for as long as I can remember. This does NOT occur when using any other browser, including Edge and Chrome, so it is not to AOL webmail app but rather something in FireFox.

Has anyone else reported the same? Can anything be done to fix this problem before I jump ship to Edge or Chrome on a permanent basis?

I installed Firefox on a fresh Win 11 install, and most of the the favicons are still generic on the Home Page several days later. Facebook, Ebay and Youtube are the only ones that appear consistently, sometimes other will display, but then be gone again the next time the app is launched. All other links just have the generic letter icons.

I tried deleting the 3 favicon files in the Profiles folder, but it did nothing. I've tried manually re-adding the links, still nothing. I removed the "S" from "https;//" and still nothing. The favicons all show up on my other machines which use Firefox on the same user account, so it is not a problem with the websites themselves.

Not sure if its related, but upon installing Firefox on this machine, it made Firefox on my Mac desktop absolutely freak out. I had to make a significant number of changes over the course of hours to fix everything, so many relating to favicons alone that I don't know what actually fixed it.

What else can I do to try and get these working? Why does Firefox apparently struggle with this particular feature across multiple OSes?

Thanks.

When using Firefox, just starting today, I can not select anything on the lower 1/4 of my screen with my mouse, even in troubleshooting mode. In fact, I had to use the arrow keys to get down to help to even try troubleshooting mode. Not positive it's a FF issue 100%, but fairly sure as Edge doesn't seem to do it.

This is a weird one for me. Firefox 142.0.1 Windows 10 Pro 22H2 AdBlock Plus and NoScript as add-ons

https://tvlistings.gracenote.com/grid-affiliates.html?aid=tribnyc2dl

shows me as automatically logged into the site but will not load the TV listings for me in a normal window.

But if I use the same link in a private window it asks for my user name and password then shows the TV listings and continues to work as it always has.

What could possibly cause this? Has only happened for the last 4 days.

Mozilla Firefox began to crash all the time; crashes happen almost every ten minutes, and it happens with every site. It still lasts about for several weeks. I tried to reinstall Firefox; I updated my drivers for my computer; I cleared cash and history in the settings; I tried to delete some files from Firefox's folder. All these things did not help. The crashes may happen with any site, and it can happen any time. I have no problem with memory shortage. My system consists of Ryzen 7 5800x, Radeon RX 7800 XT and G.Skill Flare X (for AMD) DDR4 2x16Gb.

The audio cuts out intermittently every few seconds specifically during the races (also I have the pro subscription) since it is only the races that use the enhanced stream with all the options. The audio sync is fine but the audio just cuts out sometimes every 2-4 seconds and it will cut out for a full second. It's unusable like this. It seems like an issue with Firefox because the Chromium browsers don't do this (They have a much worse issue with video performance).

I am receiving pop-up messages indicating CRITICAL ERROR! and "Click here to remove them!" followed by a URL ending with velonexa.com They appear as though they are from Mozilla, but we know better. I try to close the window and, of course, without clicking the url or the Dismiss button, but they keep reappearing. There are three stacked windows, constantly appearing as the pop-up windows are closed. Any thoughts or recommendations to eliminate? I've tried shutting down and rebooting. Pretty confident these are not from you. They are also always on top. I try to do a screen capture or print screen and i only capture what is behind them.

I know this is not generated by Mozilla, but thought you should at least be aware of them.
