How do I get Firefox to always show the table of contents for PDF files?

Every time I view a PDF file in Firefox, I first have to click the button that enables the sidebar and then switch to the table of contents. I wish I could get Firefox to remember that, so that it shows by default when I open a PDF. Is there a setting for this?

Unfortunately, I am unaware of any way to change this at the moment. Does Adobe Reader automatically open with a table of contents displayed? If so, you can just decide not to use Firefox's built-in PDF viewer:

Type about:config in the Awesome Bar. Change preference name pdfjs.disabled to true. Make sure Adobe Reader is configured to launch for web PDFs and you'll be in good shape.
