I would love to update to Firefox 10 as you keep offering, but I want to keep all my extensions and add ons that i do have so as not to lose any after the update. Also, why so many version skips in such a short time? It was about 2 years ago, you was on ver. 4, then recently to 5 then 7 and now 10 something like that. Wow so quick.

Looks that you have a user agent that is corrupted by MegaUpload and that identifies you as Firefox/3.0.13

  • Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.27) Gecko/20120216 Firefox/3.0.13;MEGAUPLOAD 1.0 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET4.0C)

Firefox normally now tried to check in advance, and by default extensions are now considered compatible rather than the other way round as happened previously BUT I suspect you could have problems going from version 3 to version 10.0.2.

Try installing Firefox portable10.0.3 as an aditional browser. That is secure and you can try the extensions on that. http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

Note firefox 3 is not uptodate, not secure and not supported, it can not be recommended that you continue using that. Firefox releases occur much faster now, usually every six weeks, this should allow improvements and fixes to be made a lot more quickly than the old system.http://blog.lizardwrangler.com/2011/08/25/rapid-release-process/

So your saying if I install 10, it tell me if my addons etc are compatible or not? And what if something isn't compatible? Then I have the new version but lose some features? I'm using desktop so no use portable because this is not a pda or iphone etc.

Actaully firefox is still updating for me in ver 3, I now have 3.6. something.18 so they seem to update in 3 still but very slowly. Thanks also for the often updating info, just didnt understand why they skip the numbers to so high and not stay in Vers 4. something.... etc. thanks.

cor-el or anyone else who is aware of this method/ problem

I glance at your msg for a second and understood that your saying I had a virus so I opted to get the FF 10.2 right away last night. Then this afternoon, I click on some of your links and went chose this route and went into about:config (i am familiar with this). I did reset all that I could find on that list except the ones listed below were not even on the list. Maybe they do not show up under FF 10.2?

general.useragent.security - not there; general.useragent.extra.productName - where productName can be the name of some third party software (e.g. microsoftdotnet). = microsoftdotnet was there but not the other; general.useragent.override - not there

I am not to fond of where they moved the tabs away from the current page that one is on but I guess I will have to get used to that. I did choose LavaFox v 1. I like the dark, it saves my screen. I was warned that my java 1,2,3 etc is not compatible and some divX thing, not remember at this time, and a few others (too many) were not lucky enough to go with this version. I will see how much I will notice different

I just noticed now, that I can't bookmark only one tab, I have to bookmark all while on right click??? That's all at this time and thanks to everyone who is taking time to help. Thanks.

Some menu entries in the main menu bar are hidden if you use the mouse and only appear if you use the keyboard to open the menu (Bug 626825).

You can see the difference if you use Alt+F to open the File menu or other menus like the Edit menu (Alt+E) and Bookmarks menu (Alt+B) and compare that to what you see if you use the mouse to open the menu after you have made the menu bar visible by tapping Alt or by pressing F10.

  • "Bookmark All Tabs" (Shift+Ctrl+D) no longer shows in the Bookmarks menu unless you open the Bookmarks menu via the keyboard (Alt + B).
  • "Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.

In a previous reply, someone told you that you could install a portable version of FF. Any portable version can be installed on your desktop PC at the same time as your main installation of FF, and the portable version will not cause problems for the standard version. The portable versions do not store any info in the registry, so no conflicts there. Other saveable info like settings and add-ons I believe get saved in the folder that you install the portable version into. I am of the understanding that you can have as many different portable versions installed on your home PC at the same time. I think if you install a portable version on a USB flash drive, you can then run that version of FF from any PC while your flash drive is plugged in. Kind of a portable from desktop to desktop, or anywhere you can plug your drive, not meaning for a phone or something like that. There may be editions of FF just for phones, not exactly sure. In short, the portable versions are a very good way of testing a new version of FF without upgrading your main desktop version. I hope it helps. Good Luck.

"Bookmark All Tabs" can be accessed via the right-click context menu of a tab on the tab bar.

> I see that now, thanks. But as for the bkmrk all, I only use that one on emergency and I no time to do each one providing I have many tabs but not all I want to book. Anyways, that one is still there.

I did find the single book mark as you said and via mouse to, by touching the page I want to bookmark not the tab but the page itself and right click and walaa. Thanks.

guntherk Thank you for the info, I not know that before and I actually did think that was for phones etc. And it does't help with the original problem because I opted to go with FF10.2 Basically one could say that I changed the equation. So I accepting the loss and hoping that everything will run smoothly for me without some add-ons. Maybe this was a good thing because like I was told above, I could have been corrupted by user agent megaupload, though not sure what they have to do with anything. But o well. I knew what I had been installing as I was told the display info said otherwise.

So I will keep the info that (sort of or helped me or may help me in future problems) I learned from everyone who contributed to helping. Knowledge is a good thing so all you people did help in some form or another.

THANK YOU all.

One more thing about the portable, if what I said wasn't clear enough answer? I will try that method if I should have a future problem leaving my present version of 10 to version 11 or whatever number they choose.

From what I gather, the portable versions of FF are for computers and can be portable in the sense that you can take a flash drive with you. What I forgot to mention is I saw FF mobile, which I guess is a mobile app for phones and other mobile, handheld devices. If you really wanted to check that out, I believe there is an Android emulator for the PC. But I'd go with the real thing. I don't even have a cell phone. Oh, btw, sometimes add-ons that are listed as not being compatible with a new ver of FF will actually work, they just haven't been tested and updated yet. There are a couple of options you can try if you really want an add-on that is not listed as being compatible. You can turn off Version Checking, I believe you need Mr. Tech Toolkit add-on installed for that. There is an option to disregard the compatibility checking, an option that says Make Add-On Compatible, and finally, the add-on can be slightly modified by the user by simply changing the highest compatible version number listed in the add-on file. I'd have to look up the exact procedure, but it is not difficult. I've had mixed success with the above procedures, but nothing catastrophic. Glad to be of help.
