Simple enough, I did not select to install 6, was ok with 5, I had no desire to update. I reboot my computer and and start FF, bam, installing updates yadda yadda, cannot find updates to these add ons, then crash report, crash report, crash report, crash report, crash report, ad infinitum. Cant change settings to fix jack if I cant run FF at all.

if this thing is guessing about my current browser and OS, ignore it, the issue is on my laptop not this workstation

cannot get to other info to include here

It seems a uninstall, then reinstall of 5, restored the browser. However, 6 automagically updated itself again, never letting me opt (I use birdiesync which is not compatible with 6).

Now 6 works but I did not want it, since I cannot sync my droid with thunderbird anymore (birdiesync is a 40 buck app)

How the hell can I STOP 6 from installing itself?

update 8/22 6 starting crashing all over again, it was stable for about a day.

update 8/23 go to tool, options, advancep, update tab, then uncheck the firefox option, then ok close the browser, restart I think this MAY prevent 6 from automagically updating itself in place of 5

HEY MOZ PEOPLE - TRY TESTING, THIS UPDATE IS USELESS

You need to check your settings. If you do as I describe above, before unchecking the firefox option: select Ask me what I want to do Select Warn me if this will disable any of my add-ons Then unselect firefox, the other options will grey out, but behave as desired.

Close firefox Reboot This will force firefox to ask you before it can update.

cgman, you need to set: options>Privacy, remember history

If you use software recovery tools, you can likely get the files back. Heck google where they live in your system, odds are they are still there, renamed
