Chosen solution

Go to HELP and select "Restart with add-ons disabled". If access speeds back up then there is a problem with an addon of plugin. Post back here with results.

Remove The Bing Bar!

I tried V4, and had this problem. Pages would randomly take a minute to load, or more - other ones loaded imediately.

I removed V4, completely, and reinstalled V3.6.17, but the problem persisted.

So it had to be some sort of add-on.

Evenutally, after much headscratching, I found that going to Control Panel-Add & Remove Programs, and removing the Bing Bar program cured the delays.

I have no idea where this software came from - whether it was automatically downloaded with V4, or whether someone else here downloaded it unwittingly, I can;t say.

But it causes the problem of pages taking ages to load.

Try changing the about:config settings.

Here's a summary of most of the config settings:

Here's a useful Youtube tutorial on how to change some of the settings:

Geeky stuff, but my Firefox 4.01 did speed up. Turning on the pipelining feature makes a big difference.

This is pathetically slow. I have not been able to load ONE video or flash item since I upgraded. I've been arguing with my husband that firefox is better than explorer. I'm guessing I just lost that one. And.. you change things just because you can? For what purpose were items like toolbar placement, refresh buttons, etc. moved? Like an editor...because you must change 'something'.

Similar problem (running 4.0.1), but it's not a page download speed issue in my case - my problem is with response time and memory/CPU usage.

I click anything in firefox (on a webpage, or within the browser) and there is at least 6 seconds before I get any response. It's the same with the mouse wheel.

My CPU graph in task manager looks like the Alps with 3% troughs to 99% peaks every couple of seconds. Up to 300,000 Kb memory usage too. Safe mode I get peaks of 20%, but turning all my plugins off and running normally and I'm back to square one. I need my plugins anyway, so I'm not willing to uninstall them.

It'll be great once this is sorted, can't wait to use FF full time again, but for now, I'm having to use Safari (I'd rather die than use IE full time, naturally)

Good luck with the fix guys!

I didn't think that I would ever have to say this... IE is better that Firefox 4.01. Yes, a MS product works better than the current version of Firefox!!!

I have just spent the past two days, installing and uninstalling add-ons etc, but the core problem with Firefox IS FIREFOX.

(1.) I love Firefox up to and including 4.0 (2.) 4.01 is awkward and illogical. (3.) The add-ons make Firefox work for me.

If you can't get a version working, simply DON'T release it. To do so makes you, and those who depend on you incompetent.

ARGH! I have been running Firefox 4 on my happy zippy little Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Macbook using high speed broad band for less than a week, and cannot believe how insanely slow this browser release is. It takes at *least* a good half a minute to load anything. I have just tried to check add-ons (though I don't think I have any) via add-ons manager and after waiting over two minutes for it to get past 'connecting' gave up. FF4 frequently hangs, it's ("well this is embarassing") crashed twice, and if I see that beach ball once more I swear I'm going back to IE.

C'mon Mozilla, sort this mess OUT!

Oh yes, this! I forgot to mention that videos are just impossible. Nothing will stream at all, and instead I have to reduce the size of a youtube clip in order for it to pre-load.

Guess what folks? I just installed the newest of the new Firefox- 5 and it is slower than FF 3.6.17 which had just upgraded to 3.6.18. I hated FF4 and FF5 seemed better. I even used all the FF speed up addons- FasterFox, FastestFox (there is no FastFox), Tweak Network, Vacuum Places and Speed DNS all to no avail. I tried the about:config screen solution with the set to TRUEs crapola and all the change Integers and Booleans to some astronomical number and still no dice. I went into the mode where you can play with stuff w/o changing anything I forget its nomenclature offhand and tried ALL the addons one by one but nothing helped. Even with all addons disabled FF5 was as slow as molasses in January- still! Now it's deciding whether or not to let me open certain websites or not. I do online survey and web ad surf work and need to work with many taboo websites, must work without Ad Blocking and must always accept any and all cookies as well as allowing all popups so is there any way out of this mess or even a workaround? I'd love to find one and fast. Thanks- keimanzero

I can't believe it every time Firefox brings out a newer version it always have so many bugs to it. I think they need to test it more before they bring it out.

My computer is really slow, take a long time to load the page, it keeps spinning almost 40 seconds. It is taken me twice as long to get my work done.

Please get these bugs fixed. ALl of my adds on are disable and its still slow.
