I guess so, it's brand new from adobe website so it's not some sort of special edition.

I'll try this FF4 beta version and let us see what it's all about.

to be continued...

Still no good. I've disabled all plugins except the flash player and no changes.

Now I have no more updates to look for. I feel uneasy to go back to IE, FF works like a light speed against a snail (snail - IE).

Get serious programmers of Adobe and FF. Good luck.

It's not the flash, the shockwave or my video drivers as they're all utd. Firefox updated automatically the other day to 3.6.14 and now today, I updated it it 3.6.15 and I still have no sound on youtube. All of my other videos play fine through my various media players.

This is not the first time this has happened. Once before with a version some time ago, this happened, but I can't remember the version and I can't remember how I fixed it.

It just sucks that this even happens to begin with. Hopefully, someone will post the correct fix soon.

Okay, I updated to 3615, but I wanted to see if it changed anything with hardware acceleration, but now i can't change settings at all. The settings thing is grayed out when I right click on a video. Oh well.

To everybody who has problems. I'll tell you my config which is working perfectly with Youtube. If yours is the same as mine, most likely you won't have problems... I have:

  • Firefox 4 beta 12
  • Adobe Flash 10.2.152.26

OK, this seem s to be a minor and also major difference, the latest version of flash available from adobe is Flash Player 10.2.152.32

@Efreak you seem to have some previous version that works and it used to work for me also. And today this update from Adobe came...

I thought I was the only one having this problem. The Adobe Flash Player automatically updated itself to the latest Flash Player, which is version 10.2.152.32. As Coigach says, it's also affecting Google Chrome too (but it's not even affecting Internet Explorer at all). On YouTube, I can see the entire video at once, but when I login to see another video, it's completely blank (although I can still hear the audio portion of it). Mozilla, what the heck have you done?

@jernejster So we have narrowed down the problem to the latest Adobe Flash player update. Here's the previous version via oldapps.com: http://www.oldapps.com/flash_player.php?old_flash_player=21

Also here's the direct link: http://www.oldapps.com/flash_player.php?old_flash_player=21?download

OK, tried on FF4 and on 3.6.15 and no changes. I also uninstaled all the Adobe programs and installed once again the older version of Flash that you sugested - no change at all!

And just a short comment on FF4: why in the world would anyone copy the IE??!!?? Ther was no need at all to change the position of the buttons to match IE. In fact position of the buttons in FF was one of the major reasosn for me to stick with this browser. I intend to write some comments about FF4, however this is not the place for this.

I'm curious, What do you mean by "they change the buttons to look like IE"? I'm fine with the new layout...

more options

Well, just for example the home page button is moved to the right side of the window and also the refresh button. I mean it's nothing special but you have to jump with your mouse more and that takes time. In this 3.6.15 version you have everything condensed on the left side of the window and it's really practical. I was a user of IE for a year now (FF before) and this jumping to buttons all over the wondow was terrible and FF 4 seems to be the same.

I just hope that Flash problem will be solved soon.

You can move both around wherever you want them via the Customize dialog. For that matter you can move almost 'any' button around on the Firefox interface. Heck, I've seen a screenshot of Firefox that moved every single button to the left side and removed the url bar to:P

About the flash problem. No matter what I seem to do,(i.e. install 3.6.x, latest version, etc) I can't reproduce the problem you have.

@Efreak: I'm glad to hear that your programs are working. I can also see, thah more and more people clikck here caliming, to have the same problem. It's funny how youtube works fine in Safari and that FF freezes everytime. I also have the entire Adobe CS5 intalled on my computer and Adobre Acrobat X Pro. Maybe there is something hidden in connecton with these programs. And it is so, that FF dosen't work even in safe mode. I had one or two episodes when I could watch a video or two and then the same old story. But I did not make any changes at that time.

@jernejster The only thing I can postulate is that some addon is causing the flash problem. How many addons do you have installed? If you absolutely had to, you could start a new profile which is basically like a fresh install.

@Efreak, sorry for the late update. I created new profile and started with fresh Firefox, still no changes. There is some light at the end of the tunnel, because IE9 works OK even in Youtube. But i'm not happy to go back to the IE...

We now know that the problem has to do with with the latest flash versions on XP. Here are two options to fix the problem:

  1. You can revert back to the previous version of Flash that worked. Here's the link to Flash Player 10.2.152.26: http://www.filehippo.com/download_flashplayer_firefox/9252/ If that doesn't work, choose a previous version.
  2. You can install the Firefox 4 RC.

Or, you can go in to your cookies, find the youtube PERF cookie and delete it and then try youtube again. I could see the video but couldn't here it, found a post about this at Adobe, deleted that cookie and the sound blasted out of my speakers because I'd forgotten to turn them down.

Not guaranteeing this will work when you can't see the vid but can hear the music, but if it worked one way, it's worth a try for the other. I reinstalled my oldest working flash along with the latest beta update of firefox with still no joy, and removing that cookie was the only thing that worked.

OK guys, here's how it is...

I like the look of the new FF 4, it's very attractive. I followed these last instructions and there is partial succes. Youtube works after first installation and it works flawlessly. But when I restart FF 4, the same old story.

I use Win7 system and I've done just how it was instructed above. So we are slowly getting there it just needs that finishing touch.

And serious, the new look of FF 4 is close to perfection. Good job guys! And please fix this flash player problem.

I shall pray for succes :D
