If I backup my C drib\ve, then a week later reload the backup, all the correspondence in Firefox and Thunderbird are lost as these are on the drive overwritten. I want to put all that data on D drive, but leave the programs on C drive. Running Windows 7 and Windows XP and Linux on 3 different drive systems.

Create a new profile folder on that D-drive. Be sure to specify an new and empty folder as Firefox will place the files in that folder and not create a new folder in that location. The file profiles.ini that registers the profiles will stay on the C-drive, so you will have to repeat the steps to register that profile if you restore the C-drive and you restore a different profiles.ini.
