forward/back buttons don't work, cant bookmark sites

The forward and back buttons have stopped working and I cannot bookmark any new sites. Existing bookmarks are OK and working. I'm running Windows XP Pro and have just installed Zone Alarm Extreme Security. Firefox is my default browser.

That combination of problems indicates a problem with the file that stores bookmarks and history. For details on how to fix it see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

Be aware that ForceField (part of Zone Alarm Extreme Security) can lock files in the Firefox Profile Folder and can prevent Firefox from saving changes.
