im useing vista, and firefox as my browser, it seems when i uninstall quicktime player i can hear sound from my browser, but when its installed (which it needs to be for itunes to work) i dont hear any sound

You can check the settings in the QuickTime Preferences and disable all file (MIME) types that you do not need.
