Firefox loads page very slowly on random occassions

more options

Firefox has been loading webpages very slowly at random intervals each day. Sometimes it works fine, other times it can take several minutes for a single page to load. The browser itself also seems to run a bit slowly when this happens as well, it can take more than one click to close it.

I've tried just about everything in [this article], none of it works.

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or if userChrome.css/userContent.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the Default System theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Just tried all of that, it didn't really help. It seems to work fine in troubleshoot mode, at least from what I used of it, but after trying everything else out in those articles I have the same problem.
