Why do links not work in Firefox, but do on other browsers

Why can I not use certain websites on Firefox, when they work fine with other browsers. For instance, I could not book a flight on United.com but did so easily with Chrome. I assume there is some security thing that does not allow united, or other sites, to fill in the necessary info. This has been going on for 10 years. Sometimes, I realize it is a Firefox problem and go to another site, and sometimes now. I want to use FF, but since, I so often get blocked, it is a hassle. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks.

You can check for issues with Total Cookie Protection.

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

Firefox shows a purple shield instead of a gray shield at the left end of the location/address bar in case Enhanced Tracking Protection is blocking content.

  • click the shield icon for more detail and possibly disable the protection

You can check the Web Console for relevant-looking messages about blocked content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

Thank you , the only extension I have are DuckDuckGo privacy essentials and Cisco Webex. I assume tha DDG PE is what causes the problem. Thanks....

Does anyone know why DDG PE makes the websites unusable? Is there any way to Keep DDG PE and still have ALL sites work on Firefox? Thank you.

Are there options like in Ghostery? see screenshot

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is Ghostery? I assume you have to add that, which I have not. What am I looking for with this? Thanks. OK, found this, and have this for United. what does that mean in terms of why it is not working?

Looks like DDG PE is following in Ghosthery's footsteps. ;-/ You should be able to fine tune the app to work with United or just turn it off for the site. see screenshot
