How can I change the appearance of the difficult-to-read Thunderbird "Menu Bar"?

The top bar on Thunderbird shows which email I'm working on. But the colors (black text on dark blue backgound) make it difficult to read. Is there anyway to change to colors so they're more readable?

These colors are determined primarily by the windows them you have chosen.
