When I open Thunderbird there is no text in the folder and message list panes. When I run my cursor over the panes, the text appears. If I minimise or maximise the page, the text disappears again. The email messages in the 3rd pane are unaffected

What is your hardware acceleration setting in Options/General/Indexing? Toggle the current value, restart TB, and see if it makes any difference. Does this happen with the default theme?
