attempting to create folders in secondary account does nothing, I need it to work like it used to

Just got new to me macbook pro, running OS 10.11.6, downloaded and started thunderbird 52.7.0 (64bit) I have 4 e-mail accounts created. the top one can create sub-folders with the old command new->folder. the other 3 accounts in the profile, I do the same thing and the folder does not appear, does not get created =( Please help !

Are they imap mail accounts ? Have you subscribed to see the new folder?
