Lately Firefox suddenly quits without warning if I move the mouse pointer to the right hand side of the screen. Why?

When Firefox does this I lose any pages I had open in the browser - can be annoying to have to go back in to continue work or log out of accounts I had open when Firefox disappeared. Puzzling why this should happen lately - it's a fairly new phenomenon.

Is it quitting, or crashing?

Here is a workaround that I use all the time. Open Firefox and enter about:blank<enter> in the address bar. Now drop that window to the taskbar and leave it there.

If you lose the window you were working on, you can call back the first window and have it restore the lost window.

Make sure you are not blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Thanks for your response Fred. Your suggestion re restoring windows is very helpful. I now realise I wasn't specific enough when I first described the problem. Firefox quits in the blink of an eye, not crashes. It happens when I move the mouse pointer to the scroll bar on the right but it only happens on my laptop, not the desktop PC. Worst of all, it only happens occasionally, not every time, therefore it's not reproducible on demand.

Have you tried my idea of opening a blank page first? Does it also close with the working window?
