sent items folder shows two emails sent each time

just downloaded thunderbird on a new windows 10 machine. each time i send an email two show up in the sent items folder and it i go to outlook it shows two sent there as well . how to correct?

Some providers, Gmail for example, places a copy in the sent folder by default so you need to tell Thunderbird to stop. Account Settings-Copies and Folders Uncheck the Sent copy option.
