My SP is sky. Not sure what happened but the missing emails all downloaded again to my inbox.

Sky uses Yahoo as email provider, and Yahoo have severe problems. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20150612051346AAiCfIg&page=1

Be prepared to see this happen again.
