I have read the article about migrating files to new computer, but I'm not sure if I should install Tbird on the new computer first, or do the file transfer, using easy transfer, first?

What instructions did you follow? See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Move_to_a_new_PC

I used this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer But it does not specify whether to install Thunderbird first, or transfer files and then install. I have not done either yet, waiting for new computer to arrive.

Well, I wanted to post my results, hopefully it will help someone else. I transferred my files FIRST, using Windows Easy Transfer, then downloaded the programs (Firefox and Thunderbird), and when I opened the programs all my settings, bookmarks, folders etc. were there!
