TB complains "can't update to the latest version" although I am on the latest version (68.2.1)

I have downloaded and installed the latest version but it periodically complains with the message shown in the attached screen shot. How can I solve the problem?

Here are some suggestions from Kaspersky support to confirm if the problem caused by Kaspersky :

- Uninstall software potentially incompatible with Kaspersky (WinPcap and Glary Utilities in my case).

- Open Kaspersky settings - Additional - Network and scroll at the bottom of the page. in Mozilla section, temporary uncheck the option: Scan secure traffic in Mozilla applications

I have just had Kaspersky tell me that TB had an update. Earlier today I had the usual 'Cannot update' Wait and see if the Kaspersky found update stops the other indications, which lock my PC.

Since I switched from Kaspersky (free) to Avast (Free) I've not seen these pop-ups. Not of course an easy option for users who use the paid versions. It's only two days so far. But the signs are good.

@May Nemiz Thanks a lot for the hint. I disabled the secure traffic inspection and today the update request from TB did not show up. I will observe it for a few more days though. Disabling the https inspection also solved a certificate problem with my home server which was blocked before without any option to continue. I think Kaspersky did not a good job with the secure inspection module and should definitely do a rework on it.

New recommendations from Kaspersky :

Continue to check during the weekend if the problem no longer occurs by disabling the https inspection.

Then, re-enable the http inspection and wait until the problem recurs with Kaspersky traces enabled. Record the date and time of the notification and send the trace report to Kaspersky support.

1. In the main Kaspersky window -> Support Tools -> Enable traces and restart your computer.

2. Wait for the pop-up from Kaspersky about TB update.

3. Stop Kaspersky tracing

4. Send tracing report to Kaspersky support :

a. In the “Support Tools” window, click on “Send report to Technical Support”.

b. Untick the first option “Operating System Information” while leaving “Data received for analysis”.

c. Then, click on “Save Report on your computer” -> Save to “Desktop” and name it “KLTraces”.

d. Send the archive to Kaspersky support by email.

Just a quick question. Sorry if it's a bit off topic. Did any of you have a problem with DroBox after an update from Kaspersky? (preferences reset, ask for a password again, start to resync all files again). If so, I will inform DropBox support.

So far I did not have any major problems with Kaspersky other than the TB and certificate problems. I will leave the https inspection turned off as I think it is too crappy. Kaspersky has a lot of complicated settings scattered all over the place and if the 3 PC home license wasn't such a bargain I would definitely go with another security solution. Modern browsers verify secure websites anyway and warn about false certificate and I don't feel too insecure if I forbid kaspersky to check the contents of https connections.

I have disabled the secure traffic scan for 3 days now and the problem is gone. It seems that kaspersky really caused the problem. Uninstalling anything to make a security suite work is not a suitable solution for me. This is like having a swiss knife and then only use the tooth pick due to security restrictions. I mark the problem as solved.

I re-enable the secure traffic for 4 days and I didn't get the update message anymore. Maybe it's because I updated Kaspersky application.

However, I disable "automatically download and install applications" in Kaspersky. (In Settings>Protection Center>Software updater). I keep it activated only for important updates.

I don't have Kaspersky but have the same problem. I do have Avast antivirus though. I'm on a Mac using the 64-bit version.

It keeps on asking redownloading the newest version, which I've done several times already. It even asks me when I'm on the newest release already, like right now when I'm on 68.3.0 already.

Is the Avast Updater working on your computer? If not, is it possible Avast is doing the same thing as Kaspersky that causes the repeated update notifications, i.e. scanning secure connections?

Thanks for the tip. It's been several weeks now and there hasn't been an issue. So, I think the problem has been solved. Fingers crossed...

I don't have Avast Updater installed, so I don't think that is the problem. I'm still having the issue so there seems to be more to it than just a Kapersky issue (I think).

I still got that problem recently.

For Kaspersky users : I sent a report to Kaspersky support. They infrom me it may be related to an open bug in Thunderbird.

They suggest to try the following exclusions in Kaspesky :

- in Kaspersky main menu - Settings - Additional - Network - Manage exclusions - Add:

aus.thunderbird.net

and

aus5.mozilla.org

Restart the computer and let me know about results, to inform our experts.
