Hi! I see 60.2.1 has been released three days ago. My TB 52.9.1 (64-bit) still shows no update available. I'm on the release channel with automatic update enabled. I also have restarted TB several times with no change. I haven't changed any update related settings. I have Lightning but I don't use it. I'm running TB on CentOS 7 64bit with all latest patches.

What could be the reason? Thanks! I know I could just download 60.2.1 and manually update. But I want to understand what prevents my 52.9.1 from updating and whether this will affect my future auto updates.

While I appreciate all the work and precautions, if auto update is not being offered, the following sentence "Thunderbird version 60.2.1 provides an automatic update from Thunderbird version 52. " should be removed from https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/60.2.1/releasenotes/

Version 60 will offer an automatic updates based on the decisions of the Thunderbird drivers. You and I are not drivers, so we do not get a vote. But the statement is not incorrect, an automatic update will be offered, just not at a time that you think you should get it.

However we would love help with online documentation. So if you have time to contribute there is lots to be done in updating articles for releases and writing new ones.

@Airmail That page says that I should be able to update automatically to 60.1+, but it is not updating.

Really? This is what I read. Thunderbird version 60.0 is only offered as direct download from thunderbird.net and not as upgrade from Thunderbird version 52 or earlier. A future version 60.1 will provide updates from earlier versions. If you have installed Lightning, Thunderbird's Calendar add-on, it will automatically be updated to match the new version of Thunderbird.

are your updates via your distributions repository? most Linux updates are and what we say here does not have sway with Linux repository maintainers.

Then there is the fact that updates have been turned off for days due to a problem with add-ons. Updates are now turned back on, but I would guess the issue if your repository.

My TB didn't update when 60.1 was released. Now 60.2 was released three days ago. None is being offered to my 52.9.1.

Not from my distro. I always install TB myself.

There was no 60.1 it got rolled into 60.2 as updates have only been available for 24 hours, I really think it will get to you

Oh, glad to know. Thanks, Matt! I'll wait and see if it updates itself.

Another two days have passed. Still no update. This doesn't look right to me.

A week has passed since I posted the question. Still no update coming to my TB 52.9.1.

It still does not seem to be offered as an auto upgrade. Probably due to all the issues. If you just cannot wait to get on a buggy version go here.. https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/ and download it.

They are always looking for volunteers to help with the Thunderbird project. Maybe you would like to help edit online documentation.

I understand. I'd be happy to help!

IMHO that statement is still incorrect. It should be "This version will provide an automatic update". Present tense expresses an action that is currently going on or habitually performed, or a state that currently or generally exists (Dictionary from Google). For instance, if a person is expecting to have a kid in the near future, we could not say "He has a kid", but instead should say something like "He will have a kid".

You could download the new version and be done with it instead of debating something that none of us have control of for a week. What is your point?

Hi Elliot, I'm sorry about Airmail's behaviour. I'll pass on your feedback to the product team.

Thanks, Chris! I believe Airmail didn't mean harm. I see that s/he is a top contributor and I believe s/he has contributed to the Thunderbird community much more than I do.

To Airmail: I'm just trying to collect more information before considering report a bug. If the update has been released for 52 as said in the release notes and I didn't get it after a long while, there might be a bug somewhere in the update mechanism.

I am still not on the 60+ version too. Confusing to have 2 versions reported as the latest versions. I checked out someone with version 60+ though. Many problems of the lower version are not solved in the 60+ version though. Will these be addressed in the lower version or in the 60+ version?: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1237155

How do you file a bug report?
