Firefox crashes mostly when trying to watch videos, especially on You Tube. It also indiscriminately redirects to a Yahoo search page from some websites. I never use the Yahoo search engine and have deleted from the preferences menu, always using Google.

Here is the latest crash report:

try safe mode

Hello,

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).

  • Click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.

If necessary then you can open about: pages via the location/address bar.

See:

Is this a problem with the HTML5 media player?

You can check that via the right-click context menu.

Thanks.

I tried 'Safe Mode' and it still crashed almost immediately.

The issue seems to have started around the time I installed Omni Disksweeper for Mac. I uninstalled Disksweeper quickly, but the problem has persisted.

Here are a few more of the crash reports that I've gotten in the last month.

I tried all those things, unfortunately nothing helped long term. I've since moved on to Safari. I'll miss you Firefox. Thanks everyone for your help. You're all amazing!

Try to disable some media files in the HTML5 media player.

Try to toggle media.apple.mp4.enabled to false on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
