Firefox is frozen, but still responding. Help?

Earlier today I was going onto a site called Angel for school. I stopped being able to click anything, so I went through my cookies and cleaned out the ones I didn't need. It still didn't work, so I closed the browser and reopened it. When trying to reopen the browser, I got an error message about something dealing with a profile thing. Once reopened, the buttons other than the close button did not work. I went on a private window and that worked at first until I tried to go on Angel. Now I can't even open a private window. I will try to get rid of the Angel cookie manually and contact my school's IT if that doesn't work, but Firefox is the recommended browser for Angel. Why did Angel break it?

Sounds like this problem is on Windows. What version of Windows are you running? In case Firefox is crashed in memory, have you tried shutting down and restarting Windows?

I believe that this problem has nothing to do with the website. Let's verify that. Do this for me, please:

  1. Open the Run dialog by pressing Windows key+R on your keyboard.
  2. Type firefox.exe -p into the Run dialog and click the "OK" button. This SHOULD open the Profile Manager, but if it doesn't, ignore the rest of these instructions and let me know.
  3. In the Profile Manager, click the "Create Profile" button. This will open the profile wizard.
  4. In the profile wizard, click the "Next" button.
  5. Type test as the name of the profile.
  6. Click the "Finish" button.
  7. Select the new profile and click the "Start Firefox" button.

Does Firefox start now?

The Profile Manager did not load. After pressing OK, the only thing that happened was the run window disappearing.

I have the most recent version of Windows. I'm currently gathering my previous browsing session. I had a similar issue before with another of the school's sites, so that is what led me to believe it is site related. I do not know if restarting my computer would fix the problem, but I can try.

Thank you, jscher2000. I restarted my computer like you said to and the problem was fixed.

Great news. If it happens again, we'll try to figure out what is causing it.
