The option to view UK sites in Google has gone, i have used your advice to use http://google.co.uk/firefox as you suggested as default in Internet Options to no avail

All as above. Despite using http://google.co.uk/firefox as my default home page not UK only search option appears on the start page

Looks that Google changed its code and removed that option from the search page.
It is still on the results page in the sidebar at the left (The web: Pages from the UK).
