Unicode arrows are broken on 3.6.10 on Mac?

Torley replied

I've had a weird problem that I thought might go away, but it hasn't. Most Unicode appears as expected, except for a few like Unicode arrows. These screenshots show what I see:

Firefox - Unicode arrows missing or pixelated Chrome - Looks as expected

From this test page.

I've tried with a new profile and clearing font cache but neither of those have worked. I know the problem isn't universal, since I can see Unicode arrows fine on another Mac with the same version of Firefox, but am not sure what the cause is.

Do you have recommendations on what I should try to fix this? Thanks in advance.

It is possible that Firefox is using a font that doesn't have those arrows.

Did you try other default fonts?
Firefox > Preferences > Content : Fonts & Colors: Advanced ([ ] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above")

font-family:Arial,Helvetica,Helv,sans-serif;

Yes, I tried those, and unfortunately it didn't work as expected. Thanks for your reply.

I also just tried installing portable Firefox for OS X (which should have started me off with a clean set of settings, too) and that didn't work, either.

Did you already try this ?

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=1461325 - snow leopard fonts (restart the font server)

Yup, as I mentioned in my first message, didn't work.

You only mentioned clearing the font cache and not restarting the font server (*)

As explained here, they're effectively synonymous.
