Where are Bookmarks stored (for auto backup purposes)?
With windows explorer I could continuously update a copy of "Favourites" that is held in "Documents and settings". What is the equivalent location in FireFox for "Bookmarks"?
I could back it up to my NAS continuously using some (free) PogoPlug software, and easily reload it if needed. Can I do the same for firefox bookmarks? How?
Im running XP SP3 and I note that if I use windows explorer to go to "Favourites", and click on a destination held there it works and opens a tab in FireFox.
I'm confused ...

Bookmarks (and browsing history) are stored in a file named places.sqlite in your Profile folder.

Please mark "Solved" the answer that really solve the problem, to help others with a similar problem.
Sorry but this does not answer the question at all. When I asked "What is the equivalent location in FireFox for "Bookmarks"? " I meant where is the place that the bookmarks are stored in, i.e what is the equivalent location to favourites.
If it is not accessible in the same way as favourites is, just say that this is not user accessible please.

OK thanks, at least I know where it's stored though I see that its not in a form readable from a Windows Explorer window. I could jump to a "favourite" website direct from Windows Explorer, but I cant read these Firefox files in the same way so I cant do that. I suppose to do this I'll have to go back to IE8.
Why do you need to use Windows Explorer? There are 5 different ways of accessing your bookmarks from within Firefox.
- Bookmarks Sidebar
- Bookmarks item on the Menu Bar
- Library window
- 2 different toolbar buttons
I have a NAS device (called Pogoplug) connected to my home network that I use to keep backups of all my (user) data on a netbook and 2 other computers. The backup is continuous / automatic and does not have to be initiated by me.
I included my "Favourites" folder in those being backedup and can use the backup copy to access items that are not in the other computers own Favourites folders by exploring the copy with winsows explorer and clicking on any desired link. The other computers are not using Firefox (yet).
I would have liked to continue in this way with firefox on my netbook. The multiple ways of accessing bookmarks are good but dont seem to help me.
By the way, Firefox did not import the IE8 favourites automatically when I installed it.
