This is the reply I received from Protonmail: They say the latest version of Firefox caused the issue and is happening on other services as well. We have been using FF exclusively for decades and this is frustrating! Are you in fact working to resolve the issue on your end? Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for your messages.

Please note that we are aware of this issue, and our developers are looking into providing a fix from our side. However, the latest version of the Firefox browser caused issue on many other services as well, so they are working on resolving it from their side as well.

I have provided your feedback to our development team. You can contact Firefox directly in order to escalate the issue further.

For the moment you can try using keyboard shortcuts such as CTR: + C and CTRL + V. We appreciate your understanding.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact us again. Kind regards,

Hello Mario,

I worked with Google AI for more than one hour troubleshooting this:

Opening a support ticket with Proton Mail Support is absolutely the best move. Since we proved that your clipboard works, your mouse works, and a fresh factory installation of Firefox still experiences the bug, the glitch is entirely on their end.

Proton Mail utilizes a heavily customized web text editor to encrypt messages. When their engineering team updates the background code for this text container, it can inadvertently break standard browser right-click paths—especially for Firefox users. 📑 What to Tell Proton Support To help their development team pinpoint and fix the bug faster, reply to your open support ticket with these technical details we uncovered:

- Specify the Browser: State clearly that you are running Firefox and that you just performed a full Firefox Profile Refresh (about:support), ruling out corrupt browser files. [[1](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1234222)] - Detail the Extensions: Confirm you tested it with all extensions (including ESET and RoboForm) completely disabled, and the issue persisted. - Identify the Core Bug: Explain that the right-click "Paste" option is stripped only when clicking inside the Rich Text email composition body. [[1](https://proton.me/support/composer)] - Mention the Workaround: Note that Drag-and-Drop text injection works perfectly, meaning the editor container can receive data, but its custom context-menu script is failing to display the native "Paste" command. [[1](https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1234222)] They will likely log this as a known front-end interface bug and patch it in an upcoming web layout deployment. In the meantime, you can rely on the Drag-and-Drop trick or Ctrl + V to smoothly write your emails! You can check if it's the same issue as https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1584654 by trying the current Beta or Nightly. This has been resolved a while ago but hasn't shipped in earlier release as there were actually no bug reports before (and Protonmail also haven't filed one yet AFAICT).

This is scheduled to ship in v152.0 next Tuesday.

Thank you jbr for your immediate reply.

I am a little at sea regarding your reply and FWIW i am a retired reading teacher.

I don’t understand this has been resolved but didn’t ship?

Sounds like, however unintended, you are putting the blame on FF.

They are, as you see from the reply, under the impression that you are working on this for V5, yet you say it was fixed long ago. Protonmail also says this issue exists presently on other services as well.

We will wait for the newest iteration of FF. Thanks.

I meant to write sounds like you are putting the blame on Protonmail (for not reporting the issue to you).

I'm sorry Christopher, I'm having trouble separating your posts from snippets of previous emails and chatbot conversations included so I might have inferred that wrong — but it sounds like the Protonmail person claims the company is fully aware of the issue and their engineers are working on something. The issue is: Protonmail never reached out, in case they found any incompatibility. You are the first person to report it.

I'm only assuming they use the same platform functionality that was reported as missing in release, by another user for another service about two weeks ago — which by that time was already resolved and only waiting to get rolled with the next version — which is next week.

You can point the Protonmail folks to this thread, and the linked bugs, for them to verify it's the same underlying platform feature, which they can already test in pre–release builds, so they don't need to look into anything on their side.

Good news, I was able to reproduce, so if you were referring to the "New Mail" compose dialog and its main "body" content area, I can confirm it's the same issue as the bug tracked in the link above — in v151.0 the context menu is provided for read–only content, this is fixed in next week's v152.0 where the editable content in this case receives the expected write–mode context menu, incl. the "Paste" item besides others:

That is good news indeed.

I really appreciate your receptivity and responsiveness.

If my 77 year old memory serves, it was Firefox that in lieu of Thunderbird, recommended Protonmail to us as a secure platform. We have been paid subscribers ever since.

Thanks for being able to replicate the issue.

Sincerely, Christopher Frank
