Extra profile deletion

In "manage profiles" I see where to delete the extra profile that was created and I don't want. Thanks to Cetaseus1. my question is does deleting a profile delete all the bookmarks? there is an info box that warns that bookmarks will be deleted including my 30,000+ bookmarks that were rolled over to this unwanted profile that just appeared. My intent is to have one remaining profile and all my bookmarks. I am hesitant to delete a profile and loose all those bookmarks. I won't delete until Mozilla assures me that I won't lose the bookmarks in the other profile. Thanks.

Hello,

Yes, deleting a profile via the Profile Manager deletes the local database file associated with that specific profile.

You need to move that Bookmarks to your Main Profile?

1. Before doing anything in the Manage Profiles menu, manually back up your bookmarks.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + O to open the Library window.
  • Click Import and Backup
  • Select Export Bookmarks to HTML... and save the file

2. Moving Bookmarks to your Main Profile

  • Now that you have the backup, you need to make sure they are active in your main profile.
  • Switch to your Main/Wanted profile > Open the Library > Click Import and Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML....
  • Select the file you just saved to your Desktop.

3. Once you have confirmed that your bookmarks are visible and working in your Main profile, you can head back to about:profiles.

  • When you click Remove on the unwanted profile, Firefox will give you two options:
  • Don't Delete Files: This removes the profile from the list but leaves the folder on your hard drive. (Safest)
  • Delete Files: This wipes the folder entirely.

If you choose Don't Delete Files, the bookmarks still exist in a folder on your computer, they just won't show up in Firefox anymore. Since you have 30,000 bookmarks, I recommend choosing this option first. You can always manually delete the folder later

Thanks, George. I successfully deleted the extra profile. After computer restart, upon opening FF, I got the pop-up that appeared awhile back that previously asked which of the profiles I wanted. Now it showed both profiles again. I clicked the Delete icon for the unwanted one. After restarting FF the pop-up appeared asking me to open the correct profile or whether I wanted create a new profile. Why doesn't FF simply open my browser in the only profile without the extra step of the pop-up? I like the sync across my devices. I can always create a new profile via about:profiles. I don't need a query every time I open FF. Thanks again for your help.
