Search on address bar randomly changes search engines

I have an issue with search on version 144.1 (iPadOS 26.0.1 and iOS 18.7.1), where my default search engine selection (Kagi) in Firefox's settings are not respected, and will randomly change if I enter a search term in the address bar.

Can you try if this also happened when you Use Troubleshoot Mode in Firefox ?

I’ve noticed similar. I’ve manually switched my default to Ecosia search but Firefox iOS on my iPhone is always switching it back to Google. Why is this happening?

did you change it in the settings or select a different one in the adresbar?

Thanks for your reply Mad. I don't believe Firefox on iOS/iPadOS has troubleshoot mode. I am posting this issue in the iOS section of this website.

You are right. Sorry I missed that.

New week, just an update - it is not 2025-10-27 | 9:25 AM ET and I am going to make sure every setting from my laptop to iPhone to iPad has default search engine = Ecosia...and then see if I can determine how long FFox tries to switch it and if the switch only happens on one or many or all devices.

Hi mohamednazmi and Matthew,

Thank you for reaching out! Firefox for iOS team is currently investigating this issue.

What is already known, reinstalling Firefox should resolve it.
