Why do I constantly have to manually enter the outgoing server password?
I have used Thunderbird since vs 2.0. I currently have 7 active email accounts, but have had up to 12 on my Windows platform running with no problems. Installed: Thunderbird vs 140.3.1esr Windows 10
I have recently had problems with the password entry for three of the accounts which use verizon.net, managed by AOL.
When sending a message on that email system, I often have to enter the outgoing server password manually. I have changed password on all three verizon.net email accounts, and for a few days email sends worked fine. But now, I am back to having to enter the password in the pop-up box when sending mail.
Any reason why this problem occurs after the system has operated fine for months/years. I don't see this problem with my other accounts using different mail servers.

Essentially the Verizon system for mail is one large mess. Largely i think because AOL are not really managing anything it is Yahoo now and as they are owned by bankers it is not really a technology company.
However it sounds like you settings are not correct. SMTP should be using oauth as the authentication method and that is initially configured using web pages and an authentication token is stored in the password manager. But at no time does the little windows asking you for a password appear with the option to save the password, Re-authentication of Oauth uses a full page web page, usually badged as AOL IIRC
There is no setting option for OAUTH. The one account that isn't working had the password changed 11 days ago, along with the other two verizon.net accounts. All three worked until 10/15, when one of the three now throws an error, but doesn't' ask for the password (as you indicate above.)
For the one non-working account, I changed the 3rd party password on the web page login, which usually works to correct the problem with the Thunderbird send and receive issue. But, not this time. It still will not send messages, saying: Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Email rejected. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again.
Of course, nothing has changed in my account settings from when the account could send outgoing messages just a few days ago. The account still receives messages with no problem, so I can't see how the settings in the account could be incorrect.
One thing I did was to go through the settings and remove any upper-case letters I had for readability. They have been this way for years, but I though, what the heck, lets do something. This edit was seen as a "change" in the user name on the account, and Thunderbird requested a restart. After the restart, the next email I sent requested the manual password entry which I recently updated (30 min ago). The system took the password and sent the message.
Lets hope the system will run without a glitch for more than 11 days. :=D
Thanks for your help Matt !!
