I just saw the message "Deleted 58 messages from Activity Stream, although I told TB to not delete any messages:-o

See screenshots for the statusbar message and what I consider the relevant settings.

How can I figure out ... what was deleted? ... recover these messages? ... turn this off? ... make sure nothing is automatically deleted?

The deletes didn't come from some other source? A phone for example?

No. Nothing changed on any other devices, and all devices were and are set to never delete any message.
