I cannot log into aa.com (American Airlines) with Firefox but Chrome works fine. Error message that their site is down for maintenance but it is up and working just fine with other browsers.

I have cleared cache, cookies, history, etc. HTTPS always is not enabled. Firefox is at the latest version. I have restarted the browser.

Any thoughts?

All, I was able to fix my problem in a different way by reading this thread (thank you!). I started looking at all the problems with Plug-ins. For me, the problem was a "Duck Duck Go" privacy plug in/add on. I didn't disable the plug in entirely, just for the aa.com site itself. That fixed my issue. Not sure why aa.com doesn't like that. Problem solved though.

I was going to aa.com directly, not using a bookmark.

Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

Do you use a bookmark or are you starting with the main (home) page of this website?

If you use a bookmark to access a specific page then instead navigate to this page starting with the main page or with the sign in page in case there is a problem with this bookmark.

I have exactly the same issue but the instructions to fix it are unclear. First how does one find the plug-in on a windows 10 machine, and then where in the settings is the privacy section there does not appear to be a portion of the settings to add an exception for the AA.com website. Second it works fine on another PC that also has DUCK Duck Go, so how do I figure out why this HP PC won't work yet the other does. Are there special HP things interfering.

For the OP it was a problem with a content blocking extension (DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials).

If you use extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) that can block content (Adblock Plus, NoScript, DuckDuckGo PE, Disconnect, Ghostery, Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin) always make sure such extensions do not block content.

You can try these steps in case of issues with webpages:

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies for websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Settings).

"Remove the Cookies" for websites that cause problems:

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data: "Manage Data"

"Clear the Cache":

  • Settings -> Privacy & Security
    Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> [X] Cached Web Content -> Clear

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window
