change color of certain entries

I like to color code my calendar entries. So appointments in blue, classes in green, etc. Can I do that? It seems like all entries have to be the same color.

Hello ngatu,

Would you take a look at this add-on and see if maybe that will do what you want ?

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/calendar-tweaks/

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/installing-addon-thunderbird

Any good ?

I tried it. It was way clunky. I would like something that works like my old iCalendar. When you edit an entry you drop down a box and select a color. Done. Anything like that?

'Been searching to see if I could find what you are looking for - to no avail  :(

All I could find was this (old) thread :

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=646124

And this YouTube video - it has two (not so positive) comments.

Sorry .....

Is there an ap that matches the old iCalendar? I don't like the new Calendar. Am I going to have to go back to a paper calendar?

A paper calendar is what I use .....  :)

But I did some more searching and I found this site - you'll have to scroll down to see what each app does :

https://zapier.com/blog/best-calendar-apps/

Then I stumbled upon this site :

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Calendars_-_Thunderbird

And found a Calendar support forum :

http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=46

And now I'm all out of ideas ......

I found the first one but am not about to spend $50 for a calendar. The other to are dead ends. All I found online is the same question posed with no responses. So it looks like it can no longer be done in Mozilla or Mac's Calendar. One step forward, two back. Thanks anyway.

I'm sorry I haven't been able to find what you are looking for :(

But don't give up just yet - you could post on that Calendar support forum and see if maybe someone there will come to your rescue .....

(or wait till someone else here sees your question and knows the perfect answer)

The Lightning calendar allows each event or task to be assigned a Category, which are defined in Preferences/Calendar/Categories. There are several pre-defined and color-coded categories, and you can create custom ones. The category is set in the event or task editor window, and the color appears in a vertical bar for the item in the calendar.

To have the category color fill the item box in the calendar, you can use the Calendar Tweaks add-on mentioned above, or a more complex method using userChrome.css files.

I downloaded the Lightning .xpi file. But now what? I looked up add-on installation instructions but the buttons, links it indicates iIshould see, I don't.

OK, I blundered around and finally got it installed and TB relaunched, but where is it? Why can't there be accurate instructions?

Ok, lets backup here a lot.

Lightning is the add-on that is bundled with and is installed with Thunderbird.

You have now I must assume managed to install it over itself.

If it's there, it's hiding (even after it said it had added it). According to what I could see online , when I go into TB Preferences, I should see it as the last icon, after Advanced. But it's not there. Suggestions are very welcome.

Would you please go over this article :

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird

Does that shed a light on it ?

No. I followed the instructions (BTW, a step is missing. When you go to Advanced, Config Editor does not appear. I had to go to General, then look for it. It appeared in the bottom right). Everything went as directed, but if Lightning is there, it's still hiding. Calendar looked just the same and Llightning didn't show up in the Preferences, as I saw online.

Not giving up just yet ....

I remember you mentioning that you had the old Calendar - would you please take a look at this, and scroll down to "Installation" => IMPORTANT :

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Calendar:Installing_Lightning_into_Thunderbird

Old calendar? Nope. It's whatever it's been. I don't even know what that means. Anyway, I tried to follow those instructions and am beginning to feel that I'm living in an alternate reality. It says to "Click the "Install" button in the lower left hand corner of the Add-ons box." But there isn't any such thing anywhere in sight. All I see are Get Add-ons, Extensions, Themes, and Plugins in the left-hand column. I clicked on each one and none turned up an Install btton. Extensions revealed a box with Lightning and the only Install possible there was from the cog drop-down menu, which asked me to Install from file. I'm using 60.7.2 and am up to date.

Sorry I haven't been of any help ....

As I don't want to add to your confusion, I will leave you in the capable hands of my colleagues.

Not your fault. There seems to be some kind of mismatch between Mozilla instructions and what I'm seeing. Thanks for a good try.

As far as I can see you have a calendar in Thunderbird. As that is the lightning addon what exactly are you trying to achieve

I note you are using OSX, but that should not make any differences, other than to locations of item on menus.

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences_in_Windows,_Linux,_and_Mac

So do you have Thunderbird > preferences> calendar? That has a sub tab of "categories"

What I'm trying to achieve is to change the fill color of the entire box of each entry to match its category. When you use the category feature you mention, all you get is a sliver of a vertical bar in that color.

  1. 1
  2. 2
