Since about 2 years ago the "check for updates" button has stopped working for me. Now every time I want to have the latest version I need to manually download and install them myself. Also, it doesn't show which update channel I'm on.

Since you're running a beta version, you appear to be on the beta channel. If this isn't intentionally, download the release version from https://www.thunderbird.net/ and install it.

It is recommended to create a backup of your Thunderbird profile prior to that. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

This is on Windows 10?

Yes this is Windows 10.

Regarding the beta version, I'm actually not on the beta channel. I just installed this version a couple hours ago, previously I was running version 59.X.X and I'm 100% sure it was not a beta build.

Like I said, automatic updates simply stopped working years ago so I have to keep downloading the most recent version from their website. It just coincided that today was the first time I tried a beta version.

The current release version is 60.2.1 your about screen is showing 60.0b1 which is an older beta version. I do not care when you installed it, it is neither the release version of the current version.

It would be interesting to hear from you where you downloaded it from.

In the meantime, please go to getthunderbird.com to download and install the release version you already think you have.

There was no Thunderbird 59.0 Release

https://www.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/releases/

If you download a Thunderbird setup that has say b1 on end of version then it was a Beta channel build.

Thunderbird 63.0b1 is on the Beta channel as note the b1. Perhaps you got confused in thinking the current Release for Thunderbird is 63.0 due to current Release for Firefox being 63.0

Btw if you were to get an update for 63.0b1 it would have been to the 64.0b1 Beta build.

Okay, there's a massive lack of effort of even trying to read what I'm saying here...

I have no idea where you got that 60.0b1 from, since you can clearly see from the link I provided before that the version I have is 63.0b1.

I never said I have the release version. In fact I'm fully aware I have the Beta version. I also said I was already previously using a release version. But sure, since I can see this is going to continue being a point of contention, done: https://i.imgur.com/rh4leyE.gifv

I apologize, I just checked a different PC that had the same client version and it was 52.9.1. Mixed the numbers.

I'm aware. I even said so in the last sentence that you quoted.

I didn't "update". Like I said, the update feature is not working for me. I downloaded the beta installer directly from Thunderbird's website, which probably explains why the beta version I got is not necessarily the latest one.
