Tools (Alt-T) - Saved Files

Thanks, I tried that and it brings up a 'Saved Files' window within TB. This window is blank even after downloading a couple of attachments. What I am looking for is to open the containing folder where I saved it in windows explorer.

Attachments remain a part of the email that delivered them unless you save them someplace else. There should be an attachment bar appear at the bottom of an email with an attachment. Thunderbird is an email client not a browser like you want to compare it to. It does not download a separate attachment and place it in a download folder like you seem to think.

You can 'Detach' attachments, which will maintain the link to the file in the file system.

So I guess that you have to manually open the folder you saved the attachment in on your PC? Firefox lets you right click the name and 'Open Containing Folder' I was hoping TB has something similar. Sometimes I download different attachments for different projects and it's handy to open the folder from the app you downloaded it in.

You seem to be confused.

If using a browser eg: Firefox to download a eg: pdf document. you can set it to download a to eg; Downloads folder or ask where to save.

You can then use eg: Adobe Reader to open that pdf document from Adobe or by directly selecting the document to open.

In Thunderbird. Attachments are not downloaded separately. You download the email with the attachment. So it is part of an email in your Inbox folder in your mail account.

Then you have options: You can select to open the attachment using a specified program eg: Adobe Reader. This method is done via Thunderbird.

You can also right click on attachment and choose to detach or Save as and save it elsewhere in a folder outside of Thunderbird.

Once you have saved it in a folder outside of Thunderbird,: You can access it either via Thunderbird as before, or via Adobe Reader or just open the saved pdf docment using a selected program eg: Adobe Reader.
