I just upgraded to Mac's latest OS 14.0 (Sonoma.) Thunderbird will not load. When I run the application I get a beachball and an "application) is not responding" message. I have tried rebooting and all the "typical fixes.)

Is there an update coming? Something that I can delete to make Thunderbird work?

I was using 68.0. Mail merge (Andreas Bergmann) quit working.

I upgrade to 115.0. Mailmerge does not pick up pdf attachments correctly.

How can I revert back to 68.0 or slightly earlier, to restore full mail merge functionality. And all my old email. (Yes I have backups...)

It appears that thunderbird has created some format changes that make it difficult to revert, (and on a personal note, the new UI is horrible, who dreams up forever moving box/buttons around?)

Hi, I started using Thunderbird recently to get my emails from Hotmail on my computer. I had Outlook 2010, but it is not supported anymore.

I noticed immediately that all my emails on Hotmail would show as read, but Thunderbird would show them unread, until I actually open them.

I have updated Thunderbird on various times and my current version is 115.3.0, but still the same issue. I have searched for solutions on the web and I do not have Bitdefender on my computer, that I know of, so the solutions I have seen, do not work for my case.

Is there any settings or scripts that I need to change in order for my Hotmail messages on show as read when I actually read them on the Outlook website?

Please help. Thanks, JD

Thunderbird appears to be installed and working correctly. I'd like to backup my profile and be able to repair it if needed. I installed Thunderbird 115.2.3 through the Windows App store. I believe that the program is actually installed at C:\Program Files\WindowsApps, which I cannot access even with elevated authority without disabling permissions I don't understand. I am reluctant to do this.

The Help > Troubleshooting Information page shows a < Open Folder > for my profile, but when I click it it says that C:/users/xxxxxxxx/Appdata/Roaming/Thunderbird/... doesn't exist. The File Explorer shows there is no C:\users\...\Thunderbird folder. How should I proceed?

Additional information:

I discovered this because I wanted to make a shortcut to put in my Startup folder (C:\Users\xxxxxx\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup) and couldn't find the program anywhere. There are 2 executable files ("*.exe") with a size of 0 bytes that I was able to find use to create a shortcut at: C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps C:\Users\xxxxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\MozillaThunderbird.xxxxxxxx It should be easy to create a shortcut for an executable.

Starting thunderbird at a command prompt to show the profiles says there are 2 profiles labelled < default-release > and <default >. default-release is highlighted.

I've just updated my current version of Thunderbird to 115 on my Mac using Ventura. It's installed, I put in my password and it just buffers. I can't use it at all.

I've tried to look for the 102.5 version to download and reinstall but I can't find it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have spoken to my ISP and its confirmed, as have I, that I can log on to its website and successfully download my emails so the problem "must" lie with Thunderbird. I am not very technically inclined so would appreciate some advice please, thank you. My ISP technical person (at iiNet Australia) did say they were receiving a lot of phone calls today about email and "blamed" it on changes to Outlook? If this helps. Regards.

I have several accounts set up in Thunderbird. Yesterday one of the accounts started displaying this message Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox. All of the other accounts work properly. When I tried to access this account using my laptop I received the same message. My android tablet is able to access that account.

I've been using Thunderbird for all of my email accounts for more than 2 decades. Worked great. However, I have not been able to download any emails except for my gmail accounts since 9/20/23. I've updated to the latest version. When I click on the download nothing happens. It doesn't even try. This is a MAJOR problem since I need computer access to my work email accounts. The only place I can see them is on my iPhone, which is problematic.

What's going on?

Hi, I've moved TB profiles between PCs so many times and there wasn't any issue until today. I have TB profile on Windows 10 TB 112.5.1 with 4 POP accounts and some subdirectories - nothing fancy - it works just fine. (there is 60GB of data in this profile). If I copy profile to any other PC (win10, win11, tried 3 different PCs) and any TB (112, 115, etc) I can see and open all old emails, but "get messages" not working at all - it won't get new messages at startup or if I click get all or even per account - just nothing happens. No error, no nothing. Sending email works just fine.

I've checked every account - all "get messages" checkboxes are on, tried to delete global messages , no luck.

Any hint what could be wrong?

I have a probably uncommon problem.

I'm migrating to a new computer. I set up the old accounts (3 of them) on the new computer from scratch.
Then later I wanted to move the old e-mails from inboxes & archives & drafts to the same accounts onto the new computer, and I did this by copying & pasting from old to new. (Old e-mails are important to me to keep track of long term interactions with people & companies.)
The result was I now have duplicates of the 3 accounts on the new installation of TBird. I would like to delete the new versions that I initially created with the installation. I've been observing, and both the new & old versions of the 3 accounts are receiving new e-mails and saving them, so I believe I can delete the new accounts without losing the inboxes & archives that came over from the old computer.
I've been searching the TBird help areas to no avail. But in the process I've realized I should have read them in the beginning. There's plenty of advice there that would have kept me from making this mistake.
Thanks for any help you can give me in resolving this confusing mess.

Hi all, I would like to leave MacOS and use Linux exclusively in the future. On MacOS I have MailSteward which keeps years of email archive from 5 accounts. What I normally do is export mail from an account into a mbox file, load the data into MailSteward and then delete the mail from the account (keeping only the last couple of months) - I am doing this more or less at the beginning of every calendar year, just to keep email accounts not too large.

I can export the existing data (which is several GB of data - email and attachments) back out to mbox files - to be imported to Thunderbird. As far as I have understood I can import those mbox files into local folder in Thunderbird.

Now the question: how is Thunderbird behaving with these archives while using it on "active" email accounts? Does it become unusable or does it work normally while only using the "active" accounts until I open a local folder to search for some old email? Anyone using Thunderbird with both (large) archive and normal, active email accounts?

Thanks for your insights. Cheers, Igor

Somehow, Thunderbird updated to a new version. I didn't download or install a new version. I just closed and reopened it and it updated. When I tried to roll back to the new version, I lost all of my emails and addresses! I literally had tons of business emails and contacts and now they are gone. Thunderbird is treating this like a brand new install and I am having to set up all of my accounts all over again! Is there some way to get all of my stuff back? Or has the new install/rollback somehow written over all of my previous data?
