I am getting really tired of disabling add on's that keep reactivating themselves. I am getting bombarded with ads everytime you update firefox even though I havent updated or clicked yes to anything. This is getting really boring now and I am looking at changing webbrowers unless you can give me a solution to this issue.

Media something or another keeps popping up in bottom right hand screen with ads then at top right of web pages. everytime I click on a link on the webpage I want it comes up with an advertising page and NOT what I wanted. I have checked all the settings everytime this has happened and everything is disabled.

Is this firefox making money or are these hackers? either way I have a right to know what to do about it.

hello, this sounds like an issue with adware and/or malicious addons. please try these steps:

  1. reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
  2. afterwards go to firefox > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
  3. finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.

"I am getting really tired of disabling add on's that keep reactivating themselves."

Why not just Remove those particular add-ons? Chances are that those add-ons may have brought Malware onto your PC, and merely disabling them doesn't stop their "bombardment".

Doesnt give me the option of removing it only disabling it. I have disabled in the settings also that doesnt updated automatically but everytime Mozilla has a new updated version of Mozilla it seems to open the door to bombardment again before I have even updated Mozilla. The bug seems to be Media Buzz creating newer versions of itself over and over. I have anti spy, anti virus software for surfing installed which is working on the backend of their spying capabilities but doesnt stop the ads appearing in Mozilla.

have you tried the two security tools recommended above? they are specialised in catching browser hijackers...

When the Remove button isn't available for an extension, that generally indicates it was installed externally. For example, a program may have dropped the file into a shared Firefox folder, or it might have added a key to the Windows registry that Firefox is discovering.

In both cases, your best bet is:

  • Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program: click the "Installed on" column heading to group additions by date to discovery unknown/unwanted programs that may have been installed as part of a bundle with some freeware. Remove anything you don't recognize, trust, and know to be valuable.
  • Malware clean-up tools: as suggested earlier, some programs are already wired to discover the most annoying software and clean it out for you, which can make it easier.

lisahill, no version of Firefox for Windows, Mac OSX or Linux from mozilla.org has ever been bundled with any form of malware or advertisements. Sadly it is becoming one of the fewer applications that are not bundled with anything.

Is Firefox your default browser? as anything nasty on computer could be targeting or opening in Firefox as a result.
