Today, when I launched Firefox, it hung and the CPU went to 100%. I followed all the trouble shooting guidelines and it appears to be add ons. Ad Block Plus was the main problem. I reset Firefox and re installed the add ons. ABP will hang for a few minutes and then begin working. My other add ons do not work. I've tried to install new add ons...they appear to be installed by do not work.

Start Firefox in safe mode and let us know how you do. Also, from the list below, use several programs to check for mal-ware.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode

=============================

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I have Avaist, SuperAnitSpyware and Malware Bytes....no malware on system. ABP add on works after sending CPU to 100% for about a minute. The Flagfox add on was reinstalled. It appears as "abled" but it does not function. I did put Firefox in safemode and it appears the add ons are the problem.

You can also try a reset, then try to install the addons again.

Also in the process is the fact Bookmarks, Passwords, History, and the Current Session will not be lost (Addons, and custom preferences are though).

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.
