I do all that I'm supposed to do, selecting save, then run, etc. I receive no error messages. Then when the download process is nearly finished, I receive a message about whether I'm authorised to install this or not, and I select the administrator icon, since I am the sole owner of this PC. I read about this in another forum about problems downloading/installing Firefox, and from what I understand, that is what I'm supposed to select.

After making that selection, that bit of information soon disappears, however no more boxes with things to tick appear after that. The whole process then seems to cease for some strange reason.

I was on Google Chrome until yesterday, and switched back to Firefox - I've moved back and forth for long periods at a time, due to various reasons, but this is ridiculous! Please help me.

Chosen solution

Twiglet,

I'm going to try to walk you through 2 different methods to update Firefox, hopefully one of them will work:

Method 1: Go to the About Firefox Window. You can find this by either clicking Help, then "About Firefox", or clicking the Orange button that says "Firefox" in the upper left hand corner of your Firefox window, clicking the arrow next to "Help" then clicking "About Firefox". You can view the current version here. Also, when you open this window, it should check for updates and if there is an update available, begin to download it.

Method 2: Open Internet Explorer. Go to www.getfirefox.com. Click the Big "Download Now" button. Then, click Run. give it all permissions it asks for as it installs. It should upgrade your Firefox to the current release.

Firefox does update automatically, but releases are sometimes throttled, which means after a certain number of people have upgraded, the update isn't pushed automatically for a few days to make sure there are no major issues.

Thanks very much for your reply Twiglet. I still can't use your method even after I went to download the old version because it still can't be installed. In the end, I asked my colleague today and got another answer. I just tried and amazingly, it worked. He just told me to hold on to Shift + right click on the downloaded exe file, then click on Run as Administrator. Amazingly, the programme worked and I am now using Firefox 12. Super duper happy...after months...thanks anyway to all of you here. Hope this solution will work for some of you as well. Thanks.

I'm happy to know it's installed. It can certainly be a real pain in the neck. And then, through some effortless method you never imagined, it basically just appears there. t seems to work out differently for everyone, strangely. Must feel like a weight off your shoulders.

Glad you sorted it out in the end.

You're more than welcome - always happy to help.
