Why does each successive bookmark have an increasing number prepended to it?

Each successive bookmark I now save has a prepended number in parentheses, [ (21) ]. The number increases by the day.

If I, "restart Firefox with Add-ons disabled," I still get prepended numbers on my bookmarks.

Can I turn this off? What was the reasoning behind such a number?

If I save a second bookmark of the same url in the same day, I get the same number. In fact, any bookmarks saved in a particular day will have the same number. Rewinding the clock, day one would have been Sunday, Jan 17th.

Example: MariaDB Tutorial For Beginners in One Hour (a YouTube video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AMj02sANpI Saves as, (21) MariaDB Tutorial For Beginners in One Hour - YouTube

Thanks,

I'm not familiar with a Firefox feature that adds such a number (have never seen this reported).

Could this be a visit count ?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

one of my extensions was the culprit. I was able to find another with the same functionality. That one works. So I'm all set. Thanks.
