Since the update to Firefox Quantum, some tabs that I am not currently using are apparently switched to some sort of inactive status. When I go back to the tab, the page show up as entirely grey with a spinning wheel symbol in the middle. It takes at least several seconds to recreate the page, sometimes even longer (up to a few minutes, apparently if there is adverising on the page). It appears that the content of the page is not reloaded from the web, but recreated from memory or the from harddrive.

This change is extremely annoying. I used to enjoy being able to switch quickly between tabs without having to wait. At worst, it slows down my system considerably and reduces my efficiency.

I already tried to remedy this problem by refreshing Firefox, but with no effect. What can I do to fix this problem?

Chosen solution

go to the Firefox 3 Bar Menu --> Options --> Privacy & Security panel and under Permissions check (put a tick in the box) the setting to Prevent Accessibility Services from accessing your browser.

Monitor in Task Manager. Should stay below 2 gigs. If excessive then do below and monitor and change if need to...Test and go up again , go back down, it will eventually get a zone you and it can live with.

Go to the 3 Bar Menu then Options --> General --> Performance and untick everything. change the recommended size lower then see how it runs. Note: 1 = No Multiprocessor = slow again. Try 2 Restart Firefox after making these changes please.

Note : Hardware Acceleration is for Video Card, Monitor to see if remain off or to turn back on.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thanks for the responses!

WestEnd: This affects all Firefox browser tabs on four different PCs.

Pkshadow: deactivating Accessibility Services has completely solved the problem on the two of my computers that I currently have with me. Thanks for the solution!

Firefox is now indeed very fast (after the update to Quantum brought about this slowdown). What I don't understand is why Accessibility Systems are not blocked by default, given that they are such an drag on the system. It made Firefox so much slower that I started thinking about switching to a different browser.
