I have created numerous folders to keep email messages in when my OS was Win 7. Now I have Win 10 and find that most every folder is now empty. What has happened to all those saved emails?

I have created numerous folders to keep email messages in when my OS was Win 7. Now I have Win 10 and find that most every folder is now empty. What has happened to all those saved emails?

My concern does not pertain to Thunderbird. I have created many folders that appear on the left side of my Gmail home page. I have stored emails in those folders which appear on my desktop and my notebook. I noticed yesterday that most every folder was empty on both computers. I sometimes open my Gmail from the Mozilla Firefox toolbar, other times from Chrome. I have the latest version of Firefox. I wonder what has happened to the emails in those folders?
