Hello Mozilla community,

I would very much appreciate your input on a predicament. None of the help pages on the forums helped me so far.

So I just got my Mac back from the repair shop, long story. Reinstalled Firefox, but it's been two weeks since I last sync'd all my bookmarks. Now I can log into sync, but nothing is being sync'd.

How do I get what used to be stored in the "cloud" or wherever, back to this new machine? I can get in via the home page, but then the only options I get are "manage" and "delete account".

Where is this darn sync function? I'm fearing the worst right now...

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello,

Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.

  1. Use one of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
    • Firefox 29 and above: Click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks-29 and select Show All Bookmarks.
    • Previous Firefox versions: Click the Firefox button and click on Bookmarks. (If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Bookmarks button Bookmarks button win 2 or Bookmarks menu item and select Show All Bookmarks.)
  2. At the top of the Library window, click on Import and Backup and select Restore.
  3. Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
  4. In the new window that appears, click OK.
  5. Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.

For more information, see the Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer article. For other solutions, see the Recover lost or missing Bookmarks article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hey there, thanks for your reply. I tried what it says up there, but for some reason, the only thing I can restore from are the past two days (since I got my formatted iMac back). But I've been using Firefox Sync for months! I figured that there must be many "backups" from which to choose.

I use to have two computers with synced bookmarks. I sold one (a week ago), so I formatted it beforehand. The other then broke down, and had to be formatted in order to work again, before I could do, say, a physical export or backup for my bookmarks. Cause it says I could import a file too, which I didn't know then.

Now, since I signed into the same account without any trouble, why does it not have a backup ready of the last time few times I synced? On one of my "good" computers. Around a week ago or so?

Please advise and thanks again! K.

Hey there. Problem solved. I remembered I still had some Xmarks-Addon backups flying around the digital aether. Just for the record though, Firefox Sync needs to make it more expressively clear that this feature does NOT include any backups.

What's the use of it anyhow if it doesn't do that one thing. You had one job!

Problem solved. Thanks for your help.
