stored passwords do not fill in data
1. Most of my stored passwords in Fire Fox "Passwords" do not work anymore. They do not fill in user name and passwords. They are correctly listed in Passwords and the user names and passwords are correct and can be seen and copied. Also the function "Search in Settings" is not working. It cannot find anything, stuff that clearly exists produces no answers.# Numbered list item

I'd check Firefox's autofill setting first. Open Menu → Passwords → three-dot menu → Preferences, then make sure Fill usernames and passwords automatically is enabled. Mozilla's guide shows the steps.
Since Settings search is also broken, try Troubleshoot Mode. If both problems persist, test a new Firefox profile before reinstalling again. Don't delete your existing profile or saved passwords.
Malcom, thank you for your answer. I have tried all this before and it did not resolve the issue. As I stated, "most" of my passwords do not work anymore. This meant/means that some of them work. So far I have not found the reason for this, and it all happened after a FireFox s/w update. I need to make a list of which website addresses work and which don't. Maybe this will provide the answer. Of interest is also, that when I delete a non-working address, then sign on to this website by hand, I do not get the message "do you want to save this password." So obviously, Firefox doesn't like something about the user name or password. But what is it? Nothing obvious has revealed itself so far.
