Hi Mary

Please appreciate that we are providing support remotely. Do you have someone that can help you in person to:

  1. Clarify what happens when you try to view a webpage
  2. Confirm the list of add-ons that you have installed
  3. Walkthrough how to potentially fix your Firefox profile

when i click ona desktop short cut apparently Firefox does not close when i hit the red x button because i continually get Firefox is running but not responding as far as the extensions there are a bunch of them but even with out or if i remove them and without them rerunning us till get that Firefox is inning and not responding no i have no one that is why i am contacting Firefox i have gone to Bugzilla i even went to winnows 1O help and asked i do not have enough funds to pay someone like in Just answers or any one else. I f i uninstall and reinstall i lose my ability to sign n in to Firefox i lose my bookmarks and my addons its like starting Firefox fro the first time it started like a new folder. I am not being disrespectful honestly i do appreciate all the help your and others . i guess i am just upset that it doe s not stop and i keep getting it . se it happened all of a sudden not sure if a windows update would have caused it or if the newest version i installed is the culprit Which i think it is i tried doing something in about config but not sure where and what to do i just wish there was a way to fix it so it stops . as for the desktop icons i have had them since windows 7 have used them through every Firefox version and not had this before . i have removed parent lock i have places.sqlite.old and one that just say it again with out old 2 different dates i have no idea what to do . Please help if you can i appreciate any and all help thanks please any one id appreciate any help if i knew someone to help is d ot be asking Firefox help please

your support is warrented and appreciated believe me its just i am frustrated

The additional note about "updates performed by another instance" means either: there are multiple profiles running at the same time (this matches the rest of the thread), or there are file access permission errors on the system level.

I still think the next best step is to repair the two .ini files mentioned earlier — or back up data, remove completely everything, and start with a clean slate putting back the data as necessary.

sorry v do not undersatnd wh a waht are they why all of a sudden i di nothing wrong t you meanm the two ins filed what are thjey were are they

i refreshed it and shut off start

Okay. I think we have one last chance to help you remotely. I strongly recommend that if you are unsure about any of this, that you ask someone to help you in person as there is only so much we can do to help over a support forum.

There is a theory that part of your Firefox installation has got a bit messed up. The instructions below will set out how this may be fixed. I recommend that you read them carefully before following them.

Back Up Your Firefox Profile

Your Firefox profile contains your bookmarks, passwords, history, extensions, and settings. Backing it up ensures you don’t lose anything.

  1. Open Firefox.
  2. In the address bar, type about:profiles and press Enter. Make a note of the text next to "root directory" for the profile marked "This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted."
  3. In the address bar, type about:support and press Enter
  4. Under Application Basics, find Profile Folder and click Open Directory. This will open your profile folder in your file manager.
  5. Close Firefox completely (make sure it’s not running in the background).
  6. Copy the entire profile folder to a safe location (e.g., an external hard drive, USB stick, or another folder on your computer). The folder is usually named the same at the filename you noted earlier.
  7. Open the profile in the safe location and take a copy of the bookmarkbackups, key4.db, logins.json and places.sqlite files.

Uninstall Firefox

Follow this guide https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer#firefox:win10:fx154

Install Firefox

  1. Install normally
  2. In the address bar, type about:support and press Enter
  3. Under Application Basics, find Profile Folder and click Open Directory. This will open your profile folder in your file manager.
  4. Close Firefox completely (make sure it’s not running in the background).

Correct profile

  1. In the address bar, type about:support and press Enter
  2. Under Application Basics, find Profile Folder and click Open Directory. This will open your profile folder in your file manager.
  3. Copy in the bookmarkbackups, key4.db, logins.json and places.sqlite files.

Now when you open Firefox, it should all be repaired with your data recovered.

but i see and understand but why i a always worked just hie i have always had it all the same book marks all the same profile all the same addon and never have u i had it happen so like i said it is not me it is the Firefox update should it not be Firefox to fix it and not me when never ever has it dine this besides you would think you were talking to a computer whiz i am a 72 yr old female i do not want to mess up my computer and Firefox . Why is it so hard to have it fixed like i said i have had al lthe same icons and Firefox for over 10 maybe more years and not hing like this happened before. I can not believe there is no engineer or Firefox t tech that knows this and how to fix it . thank you and all for you help but . i do not know why i have to do all this when it should not have happened in the first place. it is ok ill just go to chrome and tel everyone not to download Firefox recuse it s unworthy and their techs or engineers will not find the problem Lets say i do all that you say and it still happens then what what if that does not correct the problem? what then oh then maybe Firefox engineers or the humans that do the updates may fix it again thanks for the help i appreciate but can you answer so i do all this and it does not help

Hi

Thank you for your feedback. As I mentioned above, I do recommend that you follow this through with someone in person.

We have done our best with the limited information we have. The instructions I outlined above would help remove the problem and retain your personal data.

I do not believe there is anything more we can do to help at this time.

thaank you for all you have said and tried
