Sorry to hear about the crashes. That report refers to an "Out of Memory" error, indicating that Firefox requested 128 bytes and was denied the allocation. That's such a small bit of memory that it's hard to believe the reason was excessive memory fragmentation. I wonder whether some security software might have blocked the request??

Could you test in Firefox's Safe/Troubleshoot Mode? In that mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, any userChrome.css/userContent.css files, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running:

Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox. (On Mac, hold down the option/alt key instead of the Shift key.) A small dialog should appear. Click the Open button (before Fx88: "Start in Safe Mode" button).

Note: Don't use the Refresh without first reviewing this article to understand what will be deleted: Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings.

Any less crashy?

One other note:

The crash report suggests that Firefox thinks it is running on Windows 8. I don't know exactly why, but usually it is this:

Find the icon you use to start Firefox, and either:

  • Right-click a desktop shortcut, then click Properties
  • Right-click a Firefox icon pinned to the Taskbar then right-click Mozilla Firefox, then click Properties

You should clear all the boxes on the Compatibility tab for best results (giant screenshot below).

Any difference the next time you start Firefox?
