What is the animal on the Firefox logo ? A red panda or a fox ?

I am not 100% certain, but I believe that the animal on the logo is a red panda because "Firefox" is a popular nickname for the red panda.
the name "firefox" comes from the red panda, but the icon is apparently more resembling a fox (it was done in a hurry). a little bit of ambiguity and people discussing the cuteness factor of the browser seems to be quite a likeable thing to maintain ;-)
