Why are PDFs opening in browser when I have set it to use Adobe?
I have my settings set to open PDF files in Adobe Acrobat, but the latest version of Firefox has started opening them in their own viewer, which is NOT near as useful, and I then have to download it to open in Acrobat like I used to do. Why? Is there any way to fix it back?

Actually, amoun asked a GREAT question, which I had not previously considered. The site where I am having trouble is a bank site, for which I obviously cannot send you a link. However, in order to answer his/her question, I tried some other sites--all of which WORKED CORRECTLY. I just got off the phone with the technical team at the bank, and they confirmed that they are having some difficulties, and they are actually ignoring my settings and using their own viewer for those PDF files. They hope to resolve the difficulties soon.
So, in a nutshell, I have to apologize for my assertion that it was a change to Firefox. It was not. Thank you to everyone who tried to help.

Firefox has its own built-in PDF viewer, so an update may have changed the handling settings. I’d check Settings → General → Applications → Portable Document Format (PDF) and select Use Adobe Acrobat. If it’s already selected, resetting the PDF action and selecting Adobe again may help.
I actually did try that, but unfortunately, it did not change anything. Nor have any solutions that I found online (so far).

As you are using Windows you can set the app to use there, to avoid Fx
Win > Settings > Apps then type .pdf You will see most likely Firefox click on the right hand icon to change
Simpler is right click on any pdf and select what app to open and then ensure that is 'always'
I already have that set. HOWEVER, it just occurred to me that I need to CLARIFY that these are PDF files that are being opened from a website; i.e., the file is listed on the website, and in clicking on the link, it opens the file in the Firefox viewer. I have set the Firefox settings to use Adobe, and until the last week or so, it has automatically downloaded the file and opened it in Adobe--as desired. This is a very RECENT change!

An example document might be static.mozilla.com/foundation/documents/mf-articles-of-incorporation.pdf — that one has the headers set to open in browser.

Maybe it will just need flipping to something else and, after restarting, back to what you prefer, to see if it gets picked up.
