No address list when I select "write" on thunderbird

After you "upgraded" my Thunderbird, I was asked to donate. I donated.

Now, when I click on "write" the screen does not include my address list on the left column; so how can I select my addressees? I've tried all the boxes on the "write" screen and none of them gets my address list. It was always there before. Not a friendly upgrade this time.

First, thanks for donating. So many do not. Yes, the new release needs some learning time, but it does have new features. After clicking 'write', on the compose screen, press the F9 key. That will show address book in left column.
