adding filter to thunderbird freezes

For a few day when adding a new thunderbird filter window locks up, I can not close or run the new filter, I have to completely close thunderbird to remove the filter window.

If I open the filter window again the new filter I have added is not there.

All filters I have added before are still working fine.

Does problem go away if you start in safe mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

Is filter logging enabled? (bottom right of filter window)

It went away in safe mode, and now seems to be working ok.

I have 52.9.1 (32-bit)

Sorry to report, I can make a new filter, but if I try to add a new one it freezes.

also when it freezes I can't view the filter log, or close the filter window, I have to completely shut down TB with task manager

How many filters have you created for that mail account?
