How can I prevent Thunderbird from continually downloading email?
I want TB only to download email when I want. I would like also like it if TB can detect changes in Drafts.
I'm using TB for Win. and Gmail.

Go to your Account Settings > Server Settings and untick the options to check for new messages. You'll then need to 'get new messages' when you want to. I don't understand what you mean by TB detecting changes in drafts. You want it to alert you when a draft is saved, or something like that?
About the drafts, I meant that it in TB I download some drafts made in Gmail and then later add to the draft, will it replace the draft.

Unfortunately Google cause drafts to duplicate in IMAP. There is nothing we can do about it really. Just as they all appear in the trash folder.
